The truth may be out there, but so are the lies. This Scully inspired cocktail, an apple brandy old fashioned, is the perfect way to relax when you need a break from trying to convince your eccentric partner that there is, indeed, a perfectly reasonable, scientific explanation. To make maple syrup, simmer a teaspoon of maple syrup into a half ounce of water. Simmer and stir until the syrup reduces, or use simple syrup. Place one large ice cube or three small cubes into a rocks glass. Combine maple or simple syrup, bitters and apple brandy. Gently stir for 10 to 15seconds, to combine and chill. Garnish with a twisted orange peel, or a gold cross.
¼ oz maple syrup or simple syrup
2 dashes orange bitters
2 oz apple brandy
Orange peel for garnish
