Game of Thrones: Mulled Wine from the Wall

Mulled Wine from the Wall: The perfect way to stay warm when winter has come
There's no doubt about it: Winter has come. As the men of the Night's Watch will tell you, there is no better way to keep the chill away than with a mug of mulled wine. Warm and rich, sweet but not too sweet, this comforting slow cooker drink is easy to make, and will be waiting for you when you step inside and away from the winds of winter. Cut an orange in half, and pierce the skin several times with a sharp knife. Press a clove, stem down, into each hole. Place the oranges peel/clove side down in a crock pot. Slice another orange into disks, add honey, cinnamon and star anise. If you cannot find star anise, you can easily substitute anise seed by pouring a tablespoon of anise seed into cheesecloth. Add wine, put the lid on the slow cooker and set to high for one hour, stirring occasionally. Stir once more, add bourbon and rum, and turn the temperature down to low. Let it cook for two hours. Ladle your wine into mugs, and garnish with your choice of orange peels, orange slices, star anise or cinnamon sticks.

2 bottles young, inexpensive merlot wine (Two Buck Chuck is perfect for this!)
2 oranges
2 tablespoons Whole Cloves
½ cup honey
2 cinnamon sticks
4-5 star anise
2 oz bourbon
2 oz dark rum

1 slow cooker worth, approximately 6-7 mugs
